Nitin Sawhney

Nitin Sawhney CBE (/ˈnɪtɪn ˈsɔːni/ NIT-in SAW-nee; born 1964) is a British composer, musician and producer. A multi-instrumentalist and polymath, his music transcends cultural barriers with work that spans both Western and Indian classical music traditions, flamenco, jazz, hip-hop, drum’n’bass, rock, pop and electronica. Sawhney has composed over sixty film scores including Tiger, Orangutan, Breathe and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and his TV credits include the BBC series Human Planetand Wonders of the Monsoon. He’s scored for and performed with a variety of orchestras: London Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, CBSO and Britten Sinfonia and has conducted both the LSO and the Singapore Festival Orchestra. Amongst his many international accolades, he received the prestigious Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award in 2017 and accepted a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to music. Sawhney's work often explores themes of philosophy, politics, science, multiculturalism and spirituality, evidenced across his 20 studio albums.
